The second generation of the RD gearhead: the RD2 series, is well known in the factory automation market for its high quality, precision, easy-to-use and cost-effective design. These plug and play solutions are available from the small RD2-006E up to the much larger RD2-320C. These all come with 3 different input styles, and are available with either a hollow or solid output shaft options.
A New, Higher Ratio Gearbox from the RD2 Series
Nabtesco combined this very successful series with high ratio solutions developed for different applications. The result, a brand new RD2-320C size gearhead with a 356.5:1 ratio. This unit will be added to the current standard lineup.

Nabtesco understands that many industries are looking for more compact and cost-effective solutions, and with that in mind this higher ratio gearbox will help to reduce motor sizes – while always keeping the motion profile smooth.
A very important factor when selecting motors for positioning/moving systems, is the inertia mismatch – also known as inertia ratio. A high inertia ratio means that the motor will have a hard time controlling the load during its motion profile, resulting in extended index and cycle times due to positioning errors. A high ratio gearbox will help to solve this problem, lowering the inertia ratio between the gearhead and the motor and allowing smaller motors to drive larger loads.
